On December 16, 2015, the House and Senate finally announced the long-awaited tax deal. Included in this deal is the 10% credit of up to $200 for ENERGY STAR qualified windows, and $500 for ENERGY STAR exterior doors. Both are subject to a $500 lifetime limit per individual taxpayer (so if you’ve used ANY of the tax credits of $500 or more since 2006 you can NOT use this credit). The bill reauthorizes the tax credit retroactive to January 1, 2015, and extends it through December 31, 2016.
As with tax credits in the past, credits will need to be claimed on IRS form 5695 (residential energy credits). The credit is for the ENERGY STAR rated window or door portion of your project, not including the installation. Please contact the office and I can email (or mail) you a breakdown of your project. The Manufacturer’s Certificates will be posted on pennwindows.com, should you want a copy for your records.
